You might recognize yourself in one of these

individual therapy in utrecht & online

Hi, I'm Trang Duong — welcome. I offer individual sessions in English and Vietnamese, in Utrecht or online.

  • You feel at war with yourself — like there are different parts of you pulling in different directions, conflicting thoughts running in circles, your feelings and your logic locked in a fight that leaves you exhausted and, often, angry at yourself for not just “getting it together.”

  • Early experiences left a mark that's still with you — a wounded sense of who you are, how much you're worth, how safe it feels to be close to others. You can't quite point to when it started, but it colors everything.

  • You've lived with the same patterns for a long time — ways of coping, protecting yourself, or relating to others that you sense (or have been told) aren't serving you anymore. They're familiar, almost invisible by now, which is exactly why they're hard to shift on your own.

  • Relationships keep disappointing you in the same ways. You long for real connection, yet find yourself pulling away, or feeling empty even when you have it. Underneath, there's loneliness, a fear of being abandoned or rejected, and a sense of being disconnected from the people around you.

  • You know, cognitively, exactly what you “should” be doing with your life — but the spark is missing. Life can feel robotic, even when you're high-functioning and everything looks fine from the outside. Then, alone with yourself, the big questions surface: What do I actually want? What brings me joy? What's the meaning in any of this? Sometimes it takes life hitting hard for that search to really begin.

how I work

I draw on Schema Therapy, Existential Inquiry, and Psychoanalytic & Relational Insights. Schema Therapy helps with the internal conflict and the long-standing patterns — tracing them back to where they began, working with the different "modes" of you (vulnerable, critical, and protective) that are often in tension, and building new, healthier ways of meeting your own needs. Existential Inquiry, shaped by my years immersed in Irvin Yalom's work, holds space for the bigger questions of meaning, motivation, and what it means to live authentically. And a psychoanalytic approach builds a personalized map of your unique inner world, tailoring our work together to how you think, feel, and relate — allowing me to look past surface symptoms and connect with your vulnerable feelings without judgment, translating even your most painful experiences into genuine, shared empathy. Together, these approaches work toward the same aim: helping you move beyond simply understanding your patterns, toward genuinely feeling a greater sense of safety, self-coherence, and the courage to live your life authentically.

a bit about me

I trained as a psychologist in the Netherlands, and spent five years running a practice in Ho Chi Minh City before relocating to Utrecht. That journey between East and West, across cultures and languages, shapes how I show up with clients navigating their own transitions, identity, and sense of home.

If any of this feels familiar, I'd like to help you make sense of it — not just understand it intellectually, but actually shift it.
